DML Morning Briefing Mon. Dec. 6: China, Cuomo, Omar, de Blasio and more!
By Team DML
Today is December 6 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch. Below are my opinions on the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room, in my opinion.
1 – China’s plans for military base is ‘setting off alarm bells’ at White House
The Wall Street Journal reports: Classified American intelligence reports suggest China intends to establish its first permanent military presence on the Atlantic Ocean in the tiny Central African country of Equatorial Guinea, according to U.S. officials.
The officials declined to describe details of the secret intelligence findings. But they said the reports raise the prospect that Chinese warships would be able to rearm and refit opposite the East Coast of the U.S.—a threat that is setting off alarm bells at the White House and Pentagon.
Principal deputy U.S. national sediv id=”ld-3640-3735″>curity adviser Jon Finer visited Equatorial Guinea in October on a mission to persuade President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo and his son and heir apparent, Vice President Teodoro “Teodorin” Nguema Obiang Mangue, to reject China’s overtures.
In Equatorial Guinea, the Chinese likely have an eye on Bata, according to a U.S. official. Bata already has a Chinese-built deep-water commercial port on the Gulf of Guinea, and excellent highways link the city to Gabon and the interior of Central Africa.
Biden has long insisted that China is simply a “competitor” and not an enemy.
DML: Biden is allowing this to happen!
2 – Chris Cuomo claims CNN boss Jeff Zucker knew about involvement in gov scandal
The New York Post reports: Fired host Chris Cuomo threw CNN President Jeff Zucker under the bus, suggesting on Sunday that his boss knew all about his involvement in trying to quash his governor brother’s sex scandal.
A spokesman for the fallen TV star tried to blame Zucker, who first hired him and then promoted him to prime time, while insisting he “has the highest level of admiration and respect” for him, despite his termination last week.
“They were widely known to be extremely close and in regular contact, including about the details of Mr. Cuomo’s support for his brother,” the spokesman told the Wall Street Journal of Cuomo’s shady support for then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo amid his sexual-assault scandal.
“There were no secrets about this, as other individuals besides Mr. Cuomo can attest,” the spokesman added.
While Zucker had stood by Cuomo for months amid calls for his firing, the final straw reportedly came when a trove of documents showed the host’s behind-the-scenes meddling to help out his embattled brother went far beyond what he had admitted on-air. Insiders told The Post the journalist was canned after CNN learned of against him.
Meanwhile, the Twitter account for Cuomo Prime Time has now been zapped!
DML: Who thinks Zucker needs to go also?
3 – Omar on stripping Boebert’s committee assignments: ‘very confident’ Pelosi will hold vote
Fox news reports: Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., said Sunday she is “very confident” that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., will hold a vote to strip Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., of her committee assignments in the near future in response to her recent controversial comments about Omar.
“We should punish and sanction Boebert by stripping her of her committees, by rebuking her language,” Omar said. “By doing everything that we can to send a clear and decisive message to the American public that if the Republicans are not going to be adults and condemn this, that we are going to do that.”
CNN’s “State of the Union” anchor Jake Tapper then asked Omar whether she believed Pelosi would hold the vote to strip Boebert of her committee assignments.
“I’ve had a conversation with the Speaker and I’m very confident that she will take decisive action next week,” Omar said. “As you know, when I first got to Congress, I was worried that I wasn’t going to be allowed to be sworn in because there was a ban on the hijab. She promised me that she would take care of it. She fulfilled that promise. She’s made another promise to me that she will take care of this, and I believe her.”
Omar went on to call House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., a “liar and a coward” during the CNN interview for his defense of Boebert.
DML: What a clown show!
4 – New York City imposes vaccine mandate for all private sector employers, Mayor de Blasio says
CNBC reports: New York City is imposing a vaccine mandate for all private sector employers as a preemptive measure to fight a surge of Covid cases this winter, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced on Monday.
The mandate will go into effect on Dec. 27, de Blasio said.
“We’ve got omicron as a new factor, we’ve got the colder weather, which is really going to create additional challenges with the delta variant, we’ve got holiday gatherings,” de Blasio told MSNBC Monday morning. “We in New York City have decided to use a preemptive strike to really do something bold to stop the further growth of Covid and the dangers it’s causing to all of us.”
The city will also require proof of vaccination for children ages 5 to 11 for indoor dining, entertainment and fitness establishments, the mayor said.
DML: Great way to run people and businesses out of your state, de Blasio. I was smart and got out early!
5 – One of Florida’s biggest hospital systems has ended all vaccine mandates
Fox35 Orlando reports: ORLANDO, Fla. – AdventHealth says it will no longer require its 83,000 employees to get vaccinated.
In a memo sent out to employees, the hospital system said that they have decided to suspend all vaccination requirements.
However, employees are still required to report their vaccination status, they said.
The statement sent out by AdventHealth said, in part, “due to recent decisions by the federal courts to block the CMS vaccine mandate, we are suspending all vaccination requirements prescribed by this mandate.”
DML: Another win for DeSantis!
