Today is November 14. Below are some of the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room.

1.Biden, Xi stress need to work together as they meet for talks
ReutersThe two, holding their first in-person talks since Biden became president, met on the Indonesian island of Bali ahead of a Group of 20 (G20) summit on Tuesday that is set to be fraught with tension over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

They smiled as they shook hands warmly in front of a row of Chinese and U.S. flags in a ballroom at the luxury hotel Mulia on Bali’s Nusa Dua bay.

“It’s just great to see you,” Biden told Xi as he put an arm around him, adding in remarks delivered in front of reporters that he was committed to keeping lines of communication open on a personal and government level.

“As the leaders of our two nations, we share responsibility, in my view, to show that China and the United States can manage our differences, prevent competition from … turning into conflict, and to find ways to work together on urgent global issues that require our mutual cooperation.”

Ryan Lynch: The talks I hope went well but you can never fully trust China to stick to their word on any promise or issue. I also don’t trust Biden to show the strength needed to Xi.

2.Gettysburg College postpones event for people tired of ‘White cis men’
FoxNewsGettysburg College has postponed a painting and writing event hosted by its Gender Sexuality and Resource Center for people who are “Tired of White cis men.”

The private Pennsylvania college offered the event as part of a peace and justice, or “P&J,” senior project, but has since postponed it after it was shared online.

The event, originally scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 12, told people to “come paint and write about” how they are tired of straight, White men.

The pieces from the event would then be displayed in the school’s dining hall for the campus to view.

Ryan Lynch: Discriminating against white straight males is now deemed worthy of a peace and justice senior project? Seems very contradicting don’t you think? Just shows how the woke mob can’t hide behind every word or phrase that indicates peace.

3.Three people are killed and two injured after student, 22, opened fire on University of Virginia campus before going on the run: Police warn locals to shelter in place as they hunt for gunman
DailyMailA manhunt is underway for the 22-year-old student gunman who killed three people and injured another two at the University of Virginia on Sunday night.

Police are still looking for Christopher Darnell Jones, who they say is armed and dangerous.

Jones is suspected of opening fire in a parking garage at 10.15pm last night

He is a former football player, is described by police in Charlottesville as a black male wearing blue jeans, a burgundy jacket and red shoes. He could be driving a black SUV, with the license TWX3580, police said.

As of 6 a.m. Monday, the search for the suspect was still on, and involved multiple police department agencies.

Ryan Lynch: Christopher Darnell Jones is still on the loose, if you live in or around the area be careful today. This situation is an absolute tragedy and should not be happening in this country.

4.How high blood sugar REALLY causes type 2 diabetes: Chemicals produced when glucose is broken down are to blame, study finds
DailyMailFor decades, scientists have been puzzled over how exactly high blood sugar causes type 2 diabetes.

But Oxford University researchers may finally have the answer.

Tests revealed it wasn’t the elevated glucose levels that were directly to blame for the pancreas being robbed of its insulin-making ability.

Instead, they found glucose metabolites — the chemicals released when sugar is broken down — rather than glucose itself is behind the decline.

Ryan Lynch: The study will hopefully lead to better applications of treatments and preventatives for type 2 diabetes.

5.Exclusive: Jeff Bezos says he will give most of his money to charity
Jeff BezosAmazon founder Jeff Bezos plans to give away the majority of his $124 billion net worth during his lifetime, telling CNN in an exclusive interview he will devote the bulk of his wealth to fighting climate change and supporting people who can unify humanity in the face of deep social and political divisions.

Though Bezos’ vow was light on specifics, this marks the first time he has announced that he plans to give away most of his money. Critics have chided Bezos for not signing the Giving Pledge, a promise by hundreds of the world’s richest people to donate the majority of their wealth to charitable causes.

In a sit-down interview with CNN’s Chloe Melas on Saturday at his Washington, DC, home, Bezos, speaking alongside his partner, the journalist-turned-philanthropist Lauren Sánchez, said the couple is “building the capacity to be able to give away this money.”

Ryan Lynch: Jeff Bezos will give his money away to “climate change” and “political division”. Why do I have a feeling whatever money he gives away will only politically divide us more and make oil more expensive?
