DML Morning Briefing Wed. Jan 5: Bumbling Biden, new DA goes soft on crooks, woke professors, and much more…
By Team DML
Today is January 5 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch. Below are my opinions on the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room, in my opinion.
1 – Biden again insists COVID a ‘pandemic of the unvaccinated’ even as fast-moving omicron spreads widely
Fox News reports: President Biden on Tuesday maintained that COVID-19 is an illness of those who refuse the vaccine, stating that people who have not gotten shots should be “alarmed” by the highly-transmissible Omicron variant even as it rampages through the vaccinated population.
“There is no excuse — no excuse for anyone being unvaccinated,” Biden said during remarks from the White House following a briefing from his COVID-19 response team. “This continues to be a pandemic of the unvaccinated. So we got to make more progress.”
But those who have been vaccinated are still getting sick.
The U.S. recorded its record number of COVID-19 cases for a single day on Monday, almost doubling the previous record of about 590,000 set just four days earlier. This, despite 73% of the U.S. population being at least partially vaccinated and 62% fully vaccinated, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
Biden suggested that vaccinations would “protect” people from getting the illness.
DML: Bumbling Biden doesn’t have a CLUE what he’s doing!
2 – New Manhattan DA to stop seeking prison sentences in slew of criminal cases
The New York Post reports: Manhattan’s new DA has ordered his prosecutors to stop seeking prison sentences for hordes of criminals and to downgrade felony charges in cases including armed robberies and drug dealing, according to a set of progressive policies made public Tuesday.
In his first memo to staff on Monday, Alvin Bragg said his office “will not seek a carceral sentence” except with homicides and a handful of other cases, including domestic violence felonies, some sex crimes and public corruption.
“This rule may be excepted only in extraordinary circumstances based on a holistic
analysis of the facts, criminal history, victim’s input (particularly in cases of
violence or trauma), and any other information available,” the memo reads.
Assistant district attorneys must also now keep in mind the “impacts of incarceration,” including whether it really does increase public safety, potential future barriers to convicts involving housing and employment, the financial cost of prison and the racial disparities over who gets time, Bragg instructed.
In cases where prosecutors do seek to put a convict behind bars, the request can be for no more than 20 years for a determinate sentence, meaning one that can’t be reviewed or changed by a parole board.
“The Office shall not seek a sentence of life without parole,” the memo states. Under state law, that punishment is reserved for the most heinous of murderers, including terrorists, serial killers, cop killers and fiends who kill children younger than 14 during in connection with sex crimes or torture.
DML: Well folks, you get what you voted for… and boy, am I glad I got OUT of New York – just in time!
3 – Flights carrying illegal immigrants now landing in Pennsylvania
The New York Post reports: Pennsylvania has become the latest location where flights filled with illegal immigrants are being flown under the cover of darkness, according to reports.
At least five flights carrying the illegal immigrants landed at airports in Scranton and Allentown late last month from Texas, local outlet WFMZ reported.
Former GOP Congressman Lou Barletta, who is running for Pennsylvania governor, claimed the flights were sent at night by the Biden administration. Barletta said one flight had landed at Lehigh Valley International Airport in Allentown last Thursday. The others were directed to Scranton International Airport a week earlier.
The Biden administration has already allowed planeloads of illegal immigrants to be flown into New York and Florida in recent months.
DML: Thanks a lot, Open Borders Biden.
4 – Ana Navarro: Donald Trump Was Not Legitimately Elected in 2016
Breitbart reports: Ana Navarro told her co-hosts Tuesday on ABC’s “The View” that former President Donald Trump was illegitimately elected in 2016.
Navarro said, “There’s things which I think should transcend partisanship and should transcend politics, and a breach of the U.S. Capitol, an attack on our democratic principles and institutions should be one of those things. I really blame Republicans at the top for capitulating to Trump. I blame Trump for continuing this environment of lies and conspiracy theories and not accepting that he lost, and encouraging and promoting what happened, the big lie, and what happened on January 6. He bears responsibility. It’s not just me saying this. It was Kevin McCarthy saying this on January 6 — let me read to you what he said, Kevin McCarthy, ‘The president bears responsibility for today’s attacks on Congress by mob rioters.’ McCarthy said on the House floor. ‘He should have immediately denounced the mob when he saw what was unfolding. These facts require immediate action by President Trump.’ Now just days later, that same Kevin McCarthy was at Mar-a-Lago kissing Trump’s ring.”
Navarro added, “Look, I felt that Donald Trump had not been legitimately elected. I felt he’d gotten help from the Russians, but you know what? It would have never occurred to me to take up arms against Donald Trump. That’s just not what we do in America. Our weapon of choice is voting, is democracy, it’s the ballot, and so I hope that people remember January 6. You know why? You know how? By registering to vote. By making sure they know where they have to show up to vote because there are elections this year, and they are so crucial.”
DML: Trump wasn’t “legitimately elected?” And there she goes, spewing that Russia collusion hoax again! The Crazy Left are loonies!
5 – Public University Offers Professors Cash To Go Woke
The Washington Free Beacon reports: A public Tennessee university is offering professors financial incentives for “infusing” social justice into their classes.
The University of Memphis told faculty they could collect a $3,000 stipend for redesigning their curricula to align with the university’s commitment to “diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice,” according to an email sent to all faculty obtained by the Washington Free Beacon. The offer is part of the university’s “Eradicating Systemic Racism and Promoting Social Justice Initiative.”
Interested faculty are asked to submit a copy of syllabi to be reworked as well as a 500-word “narrative” on their “diversity, equity, and inclusion philosophy” and how the new lessons will “address disparities” in their subject area.
The taxpayer-funded school expects that grant winners will “serve as Course Design Ambassadors for their home departments, colleges, and centers.” Interested applicants have until Jan. 28 to submit social justice grants to the university, with hopes that new courses could be implemented as soon as next fall.
The university’s page on promoting social justice states a “need for faculty, staff, and students to become more culturally competent and knowledgeable about all races and cultures in a world made increasingly smaller by globalization.”
DML: Just can’t make this stuff up!
