Aid for Ukraine, CNN on ‘misinformation,’ woke U.S. Navy, and more…
By Team DML
Today is March 10 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch. Below are my opinions on the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room, in my opinion.
1 – United House OKs $13.6B for Ukraine in huge spending bill
The Associated Press reports: The House approved a massive spending bill Wednesday night that would rush $13.6 billion in U.S. aid to battered Ukraine and its European allies, after top Democrats were forced to abruptly drop their plan to include fresh funds to battle COVID-19.
Passage of the Ukraine aid and the $1.5 trillion government-wide legislation carrying it let both parties lay claim to election-year victories for their priorities. Democrats won treasured domestic initiatives, Republicans achieved defense boosts, and both got their imprint on funds to counter Russia’s brutal invasion of its western neighbor. Senate approval was assured by week’s end or perhaps slightly longer.
Hours earlier, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., had to abandon the bill’s $15.6 billion for combating the pandemic, a decision she called “heartbreaking” and that spelled defeat for a top priority of President Joe Biden and party leaders. The money was mostly to bolster U.S. supplies of vaccines, treatments and tests and battle the disease around the world, but a Democratic revolt over Republican-demanded state aid cuts to cover the new initiatives’ costs forced her to scrap that spending.
The Ukraine aid included $6.5 billion for the U.S. costs of sending troops and weapons to Eastern Europe and equipping allied forces there in response to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion and bellicose threats. There was another $6.8 billion to care for refugees and provide economic aid to allies, and more to help federal agencies enforce economic sanctions against Russia and protect against cyber threats at home.
DML: Who thinks it should be mandatory that they release TO THE PUBLIC every item included in a bill before they vote to spend our taxpayer money?
2 – CNN thinks they know why you’re blaming Biden for outrageous gas prices – because of misinformation
Fox News reports: CNN accused those blaming the Biden administration for record high gas prices on Wednesday of spreading “misinformation.”
During a “Crude Reality” segment on “CNN Newsroom with Ana Cabrera,” the host repeated White House talking points to deflect blame from the current administration’s policies on energy production.
High gas prices have become a top concern for the majority of Americans who were dealing with rising prices of other goods due to inflation. Yet the CNN host told voters they couldn’t blame President Biden.
“Gas prices have hit a record-high again today, $4.25 a gallon, according to AAA, and that’s up a staggering 60 cents in just one week. And while there is a lot of understandable anger and frustration over the pain at the pump, there’s also a lot of misinformation going around about who or what is responsible,” Cabrera previewed before adding that “no one person or entity is in control of the price of gas.”
DML: Oh the irony… CNN schooling people on ‘misinformation.’ THAT was misinformation!
3 – Dems Who Voted Against School Choice Bill Sent Their Kids To Private Schools
The Daily Caller reports: Three of the four members of the Georgia Senate Education Committee who voted against a school choice bill sent their children to private schools, the Daily Caller uncovered.
Democratic state Sens. Elana Parent, Lester Jackson, Sonya Halpern and Freddie Sims voted against the “Georgia Educational Freedom Act,” which would allow families to take their child’s educational dollars to private schools and tutoring programs. Parents could spend that money on instructional materials, educational therapies and online learning programs for their children as well.
Sens. Parent, Jackson and Halpern admitted that they send their children to private schools while voting against legislation that could expand access to such schools. Parent told the Atlanta Journal Constitution in 2021 that she sent her child to private school and believes the “public shouldn’t pay for it just because he has ADHD.”
Jackson sent his son Lester Jackson IV to Savannah Country Day School, according to an article from the Savannah Tribune. Tuition at Savannah Country Day costs approximately $22,000 per year. The legislation that Jackson vetoed could lower the cost to $16,000 per year for students.
Halpern admitted on video that her kids attend private and public schools.
DML: We should ALL have a choice, because more and more Americans want their kids OUT of the public school system.
4 – Navy face backlash after it REFUSES to deploy multi-billion-dollar guided missile destroyer because its commander won’t get COVID vaccine on religious grounds
The Daily Mail reports: The US Navy has faced backlash following the revelation that one of its multi-billion-dollar warships on America’s east coast has remained docked and ‘out of commission’ because it’s commanded by an officer who refuses to get the COVID-19 vaccine for religious reasons.
An ongoing legal battle between the US’ Department of Defense and the unnamed officer has left the battleship docked and unable to deploy, as officials from the military branch look to nix the serviceman for the refusal – despite a federal judge’s recent ruling that he can’t be fired for declining the vaccine on religious grounds.
The case is part of a class action suit filed in Florida federal court late last year, alleging servicemembers’ rights are being infringed upon due to military branches’ COVID vaccine mandates, after they were denied religious exemption requests for the jab.
On Wednesday, Republican officials reacted with ire to news of U.S. District Judge Steven Merryday’s ruling, first reported Friday by Slate.
DML: Agree, Biden’s illegal vaccine mandates and radical policies ARE undermining U.S. national security.
5 – Democrats in major blue state blasted for posing with sign comparing 9/11 to climate change as Russia war rages
Fox News reports: Two Democratic lawmakers in New York are facing criticism for posing with a sign that invoked an image of 9/11 to promote climate change awareness.
“The fact that Senate Democrats stood proudly grinning in front of 9/11 imagery to advance an extreme energy agenda tells you everything you need to know about their radical views,” the New York Republican Party posted on Twitter Wednesday along with a photo of State Sens. Rachel May and Robert Jackson posing behind a sign that showed a plane with the words “climate change” heading toward the now-destroyed World Trade Center towers.
“It wasn’t a gaffe, it was a revealing display of how out of touch they are with everyday NYers,” the post added.
DML: This is APPALLING.
