Today is June 25. Below are some of the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room.
1.’Hostage’ situation: Abortion protesters breached security outside AZ Senate building, lawmaker says
Fox News – Arizona Senator Kelly Townsend said abortion protesters are holding her and other lawmakers “hostage” inside the Capitol building in Phoenix.
“We are currently there being held hostage inside the Senate building due to members of the public trying to breach our security,” Townsend tweeted Friday night. “We smell teargas and the children of one of the members are in the office sobbing with fear.”
“I expect a J24 committee to be created immediately,” she added in the tweet.
Another lawmaker confirmed the use of tear gas outside of the building.
DML: The left is the most violent group in the world, they are making ISIS look like the JV team of terror. I will be hosting a special DML REPORT Podcast today to discuss the ruling and what it means for November, keep your alerts on the DML NEWS APP so you can listen when it’s posted.
2.Congressional Black Caucus urge Biden to declare a national emergency following SCOTUS decision
The Hill – Members of the Congressional Black Caucus are urging President Joe Biden to declare a national emergency after the Supreme Court voted to overturn Roe v. Wade.
In a letter to Biden, the CBC members said he should use “every tool” at his disposal to protect access to abortion services.
DML: “My body, my choice,” they cry. Are these not the same Black lawmakers who wanted to force me to wear a mask on an airplane, to get jabbed with voodoo vaccines and boosters, and then show a vaccine passport in order to enter a restaurant. I love watching the left melt down, it’s comical. Bottom line: If the left isn’t killing something, be it an economy or a fetus, they aren’t happy.
3.Maxine Waters on SCOTUS abortion ruling: ‘The hell with the Supreme Court’
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) declared “the hell with the Supreme Court” after its justices ruled on Friday to eliminate federal-level abortion protections, overturning a 50-year precedent.
“This turnout here?” asked Waters, who stood near fencing that was installed in front of the high court. “You ain’t seen nothing yet. Women are going to control their bodies no matter how they try and stop [us]. The hell with the Supreme Court. We will defy them.”
DML: Did she not take an oath to defend and uphold the US Constitution? This woman is an evil doer, and she incites violence and hate. And yet the idiots in California continue to voter her into office. Think about that.
4.The states where things will change
On June 24, the U.S. Supreme Court, in a 6-3 decision, overturned the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling that recognized a woman’s constitutional right to an abortion and legalized it nationwide. These 22 states are now primed to outlaw the procedure under existing laws or constitutional amendments that heavily restrict access. Some bans will take effect immediately and others in the weeks and months ahead.
South Dakota, Louisiana and Kentucky have “trigger” bans in place to immediately outlaw abortion once Roe is overturned. Penalties for people who provide or attempt to provide a woman an abortion range from being charged with a felony to fines of up to $100,000 and up to 10 years in prison. Oklahoma approved an outright ban prior to Roe being overturned, which will continue without contest.
No further action is required. Of the seven states with bans that take effect immediately or 30 days after Roe was overturned, only Idaho has an exception for pregnancies resulting from rape or incest.
DML: My hope is that following his reelection victory in November, Gov. Ron DeSantis will add Florida to the list. Either way, the only women who are really facing a hurdle when traveling to the nearest state to get an abortion are those folks living in South Texas and West Louisiana. They’ve got a long drive to either New Mexico or the Florida panhandle. Everyone else has a state nearby that will assist them with aborting the unborn. Perhaps the left should be protesting for lower gas prices considering the economic burden they now face driving all those miles to kill a life.
5.Consumers are feeling even worse about the US economy
CNN -US consumer sentiment hit a new record low in June amid growing concerns about inflation, according to a closely followed University of Michigan survey released Friday.
The final index reading of 50 in the monthly Surveys of Consumers was just below the preliminary reading of 50.2 released two weeks ago. The final June index — a 14.4% drop since May — represents the lowest recorded level since the university started collecting consumer sentiment data in November 1952.
Inflation remained the biggest concern, 47% of consumers blamed the sharp increase in prices for eroding their living standards. That is 1 percentage point below the all-time high reached during the Great Recession, according to the report.
