Russian convoys closing in, missile takes out building, Disney speaks, Cuomo’s TV ad, more…
By Team DML
Today is March 1 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch. Below are my opinions on the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room, in my opinion.
1 – Russian convoy stretching 40 MILES reaches the outskirts of Ukrainian capital
The Daily Mail reports: A Russian military convoy traveling towards the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv has grown from being 17 miles long earlier on Monday to 40 miles, a satellite company has said, as U.S. officials warned that the city could be the scene of a siege and ugly urban warfare.
Maxar Technologies, a private U.S. satellite company, said additional ground forces deployments and ground attack helicopter units were seen in southern Belarus, less than 20 miles north of the Ukraine border.
Maxar said the convoy stretches from the Antonov airbase, just 17 miles north of Kyiv’s city center, to just north of the Ukrainian town of Pribyrs’k, which is close to the Ukraine-Belarus border and the failed nuclear reactor at Chernobyl.
U.S. intelligence officials told members of Congress on Monday that they expect a second overwhelming wave of attacks to engulf Ukraine. Two people told CNN that the briefing detailed how they expect the sheer numbers of Russian troops to flatten the Ukrainian resistance.
Another source told the channel that Russia was likely to lay siege to Kyiv, and predicted ugly scenes of urban warfare.
Brave Ukrainians trying to stop other Russian convoys:
Below: Ukrainian forces take out another Russian missile system, this time in a village north of Kyiv.
DML: Imagine if the US media and DC politicians cared as much about protecting our borders and sovereignty like they care about protecting that of the Ukraine. Yes, innocent people in Ukraine are dying because of Putin. But we lose far more Americans to crimes committed by illegals and cartel-distributed drugs each day. Yet nobody in our press or DC establishment seems to care. I care. If you care please share.
2 – Ukrainian government building explodes after being hit with missile
Fox News reports: Ukrainian CCTV appears to show a Russian missile strike a government building while cars drove past the building on the sixth day of Moscow’s invasion.
“Fox & Friends” aired footage which originally appeared in a Sky News blog post on Ukraine. In the video, cars drive past the Kharkiv Region state administration building on the Freedom Square in eastern Ukraine.
When paused, a missile remains clearly visible just before a devastating explosion consumes the building. Sky News verified the video.
A child is among those reported injured in the explosion, but the total number of casualties and injured remains unknown. Ukraine has claimed that Russia launched GRAD and cruise missiles on Kharkiv.
DML: Evil and greed always destroys everything in its path.
3 – Disney halting new releases from Russia, Warner Bros pulls Batman
The New York Post reports: Major Hollywood film studios are halting the releases of their upcoming movies in Russia, including Disney’s latest Pixar film and Warner Brothers’ “The Batman,” in protest of its invasion of Ukraine.
“Given the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine and the tragic humanitarian crisis, we are pausing the release of theatrical films in Russia, including the upcoming ‘Turning Red’ from Pixar,” a Disney spokesperson said.
“We will make future business decisions based on the evolving situation. In the meantime, given the scale of the emerging refugee crisis, we are working with our NGO partners to provide urgent aid and other humanitarian assistance to refugees.”
Hours later, Warner Brothers announced it would also delay releasing Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated “The Batman,” which was scheduled to open on Thursday, according to The Guardian.
Sony Pictures followed suit later Monday night, announcing it would also pause theatrical releases of its productions in Russia, including its upcoming vampire thriller “Morbius,” Reuters reported.
DML: Notice how Disney still leaves the door open for the future. Unreal.
4 – Andrew Cuomo launches TV ad as attempted political comeback begins
The New York Post reports: Andrew Cuomo’s attempted political comeback is officially underway: The run-out-of-office ex-governor launched a TV ad Monday claiming he was the victim of a political hit job despite resigning in disgrace.
The 30-second “Politics vs. The Law” ad — first reported by The Post on Friday — takes aim at state Attorney General Letitia James’ investigation that concluded the Democratic former governor harassed or mistreated 11 women, including executive staffers and a state trooper.
The 30-second spot strings together snippets from TV reports that highlight recent decisions by five district attorneys to not bring criminal charges against Cuomo for sexual harassment.
“Political attacks won. And New Yorkers lost a proven leader,” the narrator says as a picture of Cuomo appears signing papers.
DML: He might as well have just burnt he money he spent on this ad. What a waste.
5 – Nearly half of Biden’s free COVID-19 tests remain unclaimed
The Hill reports: Nearly half of the 500 million stockpiled COVID-19 tests the federal government rushed to send out in early January haven’t been claimed yet, according to a report by The Associated Press.
The White House has taken orders for 68 million packages, which all contain four tests.
That means about 46 percent of the tests have yet to be snapped up as case numbers decline across the country.
The White House received a rush of orders for the free tests earlier this year as the highly contagious omicron variant rushed through the country.
DML: And this was a huge waste of your taxpayer dollars.
