DeSantis to hit campaign trail, Dems celebrate victory, a traitor on the inside, and more…
Today is August 8. Below are some of the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room.
1 – UNITE AND WIN’: DeSantis to hit campaign trail to rally support for Trump-endorsed candidates
Fox News reports: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is hitting the campaign trail this month to headline Turning Point Action’s “Unite and Win” rallies in support of Trump-endorsed candidates.
DeSantis will travel to New Mexico, Arizona, Pennsylvania and Ohio this month in support of GOP candidates, including Ohio Republican candidate for Senate JD Vance, Pennsylvania’s GOP gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano, Arizona Republican candidate for Senate Blake Masters and GOP nominee for governor Kari Lake.
Turning Point Action is hosting, and organizing the rallies with DeSantis in an effort to “unite” the Republican Party.
“Gov. DeSantis is America’s governor and one of the most popular leaders in America,” Charlie Kirk, founder and president of Turning Point Action, told Fox News. “He has become the model for a new conservative movement that is willing to stand on principle and to actually fight on behalf of the values of his voters.”
Kirk added: “That he is willing to throw the full weight of his support behind Kari, Blake, and JD tells you everything you need to know about these incredible candidates who I endorse and support 100%.”
MY TAKE: Brilliant!!
2 – Senate passes sweeping climate, health and tax package, putting Democrats on cusp of historic win
CNBC reports: Senate Democrats narrowly passed a sweeping climate and economic package on Sunday, putting President Joe Biden and his party on the cusp of a big legislative victory just three months before the crucial November midterm elections.
After a marathon overnight Senate session, the 51-50 vote was strictly along party lines, with all Republicans voting no and all Democrats voting yes. After Vice President Kamala Harris cast the tie-breaking vote, Democrats stood and applauded.
The legislation, dubbed the Inflation Reduction Act, now heads to the House, which plans to return from its summer recess on Friday, pass the legislation and send it to Biden’s desk for his signature.
The 755-page bill includes $430 billion to combat climate change and extend health care coverage, paid for with savings on prescription drugs and taxes on corporations. It puts hundreds of billions of dollars toward deficit reduction.
MY TAKE: Looks like the progressives are getting their Green New Deal after all. The name of this deal, “Inflation Reduction Act,” is a big fat lie. And here’s the other part, as reported by the Free Beacon: If Democrats have their way, one of the most detested federal agencies—the Internal Revenue Service—will employ more bureaucrats than the Pentagon, State Department, FBI, and Border Patrol combined.
Under the Inflation Reduction Act negotiated by Sen. Joe Manchin (D., W.Va.), the agency would receive $80 billion in funding to hire as many as 87,000 additional employees. The increase would more than double the size of the IRS workforce, which currently has 78,661 full-time staffers, according to federal data.
The additional IRS funding is integral to the Democrats’ reconciliation package. A Congressional Budget Office analysis found the hiring of new IRS agents would result in more than $200 billion in additional revenue for the federal government over the next decade. More than half of that funding is specifically earmarked for “enforcement,” meaning tax audits and other responsibilities such as “digital asset monitoring.”
That would make the IRS one of the largest federal agencies. The Pentagon houses roughly 27,000 employees, according to the Defense Department, while a human resources fact sheet says the State Department employs just over 77,243 staff. The FBI employs approximately 35,000 people, according to the agency’s website, and Customs and Border Protection says it employs 19,536 Border Patrol agents.
3 – Milley vowed to fight Trump from the inside: book excerpt
The Hill reports: Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, chose not to resign after growing increasingly disillusioned with then-President Trump in 2020, according to an upcoming book, instead vowing to “fight from the inside” against what he perceived as an erratic and dangerous commander in chief.
The revelations were revealed in an excerpt of “The Divider: Trump in The White House, 2012-2021” from The New York Times writer Peter Baker and the New Yorker’s Susan Glasser.
The excerpt, published in the New Yorker, details Milley’s ascent to chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, noting he was warned against taking the position by former Secretary of Defense James Mattis and former White House Chief of Staff John Kelley.
Milley reportedly came to the realization Trump was “doing great and irreparable harm,” as he wrote in a draft resignation letter in June of 2020,.
But after the events at Lafayette Square, when Milley was seen with Trump posing for a photo-op near the square as police tear-gassed those protesting against police brutality and racial injustice, Milley decided he would rather “fight him” than quit, Baker and Glasser write.
MY TAKE: Here’s another traitor Trump shouldn’t have hired.
4 – Bronx smash-and-grab nets over $2M in ‘high-end diamond jewelry’: NYPD
The New York Post reports: A 30-second smash-and-grab heist in The Bronx netted a clutch of thieves more $2.15 million in “high-end diamond jewelry” during a wild, caught-on-video robbery, police say.
Surveillance video shows a suspect, clad in a white T-shirt and a black cap and wearing sunglasses, acting like a customer when he’s buzzed into Rocco’s Jewelry on Webster Avenue in Fordham around 2:30 p.m. Friday, cops said.
But instead of going inside, the man then let his three masked cohorts rush through the door, video shows.
The caper lasted about 30 seconds, the security footage shows.
MY TAKE: Welcome to Joe Biden’s America, where criminals rule…. but the feds are hiring more IRS agents to come after you and me!
5 – Dems Poised To Pull Free Lunches From Christian School That Refuses to Obey LGBT Mandates
The Washington Free Beacon reports: The Biden administration is poised to deny free school lunch funding from a Florida Christian school that refuses to comply with the administration’s LGBT mandates, despite the school’s qualification for a religious exemption.
Grant Park Christian Academy in Tampa, Fla., represented by Alliance Defending Freedom, is suing President Joe Biden and Florida agriculture commissioner Nikki Fried for enforcing the Biden administration requirement that schools comply with its LGBT mandates or lose federal school lunch funding.
In May, the Biden administration redefined the meaning of “sex” in Title IX to include sexual orientation and gender identity, forcing schools to permit transgender students to use male or female bathrooms and play sports with either sex in order to receive National School Lunch Program funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. More than half of state attorneys general rejected the memorandum, with Florida attorney general Ashley Moody saying the Biden administration was “using hungry children to advance a political agenda,” the Washington Free Beacon reported.
The Florida school refused to substitute gender identity for biological sex, costing them their ability to feed two meals and snacks daily to their 56 students when the fall semester starts. If Grant Park’s application is not approved by Aug. 10, the school will not be reimbursed for the meals it serves students.
MY TAKE: This is a total OUTRAGE!
