Today is April 20 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch. Below are my opinions on the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room, in my opinion.

1 – Major US city keeps indoor mask mandate in place despite federal judge ruling against CDC
CNBC reports: Philadelphia health officials are keeping the city’s newly reinstated indoor mask mandate in place despite a federal judge’s ruling in Florida that struck down a federal requirement to wear face coverings on public transportation.

The city of brotherly love became the first major city in the U.S. on Monday to reinstate its Covid-19 mask mandate for indoor activities as the highly contagious omicron BA.2 subvariant drives new Covid cases higher across the U.S.

While the ruling may lift Philadelphia’s mask rules on public transportation, the mandate still remains in place for other indoor venues, including restaurants, gyms and businesses.

“We are evaluating the implications of this latest ruling and will provide further clarity around masking on transit in Philadelphia when available. This ruling does not impact the city’s mask mandate for certain indoor places.” James Garrow, director of communications at the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, said in an email to CNBC.

2 – Serial shoplifter charged with arson for trying to cover up his Home Depot tool heist by setting a massive five-alarm fire that razed the California store and sent hundreds fleeing for cover
The Daily Mail reports: A man was charged with Arson Tuesday for setting a fire that gutted a Northern California Home Depot, prompting hundreds to flee and filling the sky with smoke.

Dyllin Jaycruz Gogue, 27, of San Jose, was trying to cover up a theft of tools, authorities said.

DML: Scum! And by the way, what is his citizenship status, I wonder?

3 – Girl, 15, ‘stabbed to death at school by stranger, 52, who drove through security then knifed her in random attack’
The Daily Caller reports: A 15-year-old was killed Monday morning in Stockton, California, after an interloper entered school property and stabbed her multiple times in a seemingly unmotivated attack.

The student was identified as Alicia Reynaga, a star player on the school’s softball team, according to CBS8 San Diego.

4 – Michelle Obama takes part in nude art class for Ellen show
The Daily Mail reports: Michelle Obama is kicking it back with Ellen DeGeneres for one of their final times together as the sensational talk show wraps up its final season with photos showing the former first lady enjoying a life-drawing class with the talk show host.

5 – After School Satan Club’ up for vote at elementary school
Fox News reports: Educators in Pennsylvania have a major decision ahead of them that goes beyond math and science.

Northern Elementary School in York, Pennsylvania will consider the introduction of an After School Satan Club at Tuesday night’s meeting. The club, which was proposed and pushed by a parent at the school, was initially rejected by the principal. However, the club is now up for a probationary vote at the school board.

“The After School Satan Club is an after-school program that promotes self-directed education by supporting the intellectual and creative interests of students,” the Satanic Temple states on its website.

The Satanic Temple has been making a concerted effort to push into elementary and grade schools in opposition to Christian after-school clubs.
